Methods and Approaches

The Heart & Brain Healing Process as an Integrative Framework

In my work, no method stands on its own. Everything I do, treat, or teach is integrated within the Heart & Brain Healing Process. This process has evolved through years of clinical experience, international training, and an ongoing dialogue between modern psychology, neuroscience, body-oriented trauma work, and consciousness development.

The methods and approaches described below are not separate techniques, but rather the professional foundation upon which my work is built and in which my knowledge is grounded.

Trauma, the Nervous System, and Embodied Change

My perspective on trauma has been shaped by the understanding that trauma does not primarily reside in the story, but in the body and the nervous system. The work of Bessel van der Kolk and Peter Levine has played an important role in this, particularly their emphasis on how trauma is stored in the body and on the importance of regulation and safety.

My thinking has also been strongly influenced by Dan Siegel’s work on interpersonal neurobiology, in which integration, relationships, and coherence within the brain are central. These insights form the foundation of how I work with clients who feel stuck in survival patterns, emotional dysregulation, or chronic stress.

Compassionate Inquiry and Working with Inner Experience

I completed Gabor Maté’s Compassionate Inquiry Professional Training and work as a CI-informed professional and CI trainee. This approach has deepened the way I listen, attune, and guide.

Compassionate Inquiry teaches us to look beyond symptoms and become curious about the inner experience that underlies them. Not by analysing or correcting, but by exploring with compassion and precision what arises in the present moment. This way of working is deeply woven into the Heart & Brain Healing Process.

Neuroscience of Change and Neuroplasticity

Change requires more than insight. Neuroscience shows us that lasting change occurs when new neural connections are formed and old, automatic patterns become less dominant. My work is also informed by the Neuroscience of Change, including training with Amanda Blake.

Focused attention, reflection, concentration, and embodied action play a central role in this process. When an experience is not only understood but also felt and integrated through the body, space for genuine change emerges. This forms an important foundation for how I work with the thought-and-feeling loop that perpetuates trauma.

Systems-Theoretical and Relational Work

A person never exists in isolation from their context. From a systems theory perspective, I look at how family systems, relationships, and social context influence symptoms and patterns. Loyalties, attachment patterns, and survival strategies often develop in relation to others and therefore also need to be acknowledged and explored within relationships.

This systemic perspective runs as a common thread throughout my work with individuals, couples, and families, and forms an important foundation of the Heart & Brain Healing Process.

Emotionally Focused Therapy and Family Work

In my work with couples and families, I draw on the principles of Emotionally Focused Therapy and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy. These attachment-based approaches focus on restoring emotional safety, recognising destructive interaction patterns, and learning to attune to one another again.

In my work, these models are not applied as stand-alone techniques, but are integrated within a broader trauma-sensitive framework that also incorporates the nervous system and body awareness.

Cognitive Approaches, Integrated and Deepened

Cognitive behavioural therapy forms an important foundation within psychology and also plays a role in my work. Not as a stand-alone technique, but integrated within an embodied approach. Thoughts and beliefs influence how people feel and behave, but in the context of trauma, they cannot be viewed separately from physical responses and emotional charge.

By combining cognitive insights with body-oriented work, space is created not only to understand patterns, but to truly change them.

Mindfulness and Guided Meditation

Meditation and mindfulness are used in my work to support self-regulation and recovery. I primarily work with guided, audio-based meditations, which provide a sense of safety and structure, particularly for people who have experienced trauma.

This form of meditation helps the brain and nervous system shift out of a constant state of alertness and supports neuroplasticity, emotional integration, and the restoration of inner calm. The meditations are not an end in themselves, but a supportive part of the healing process.

Energy Medicine and Shamanic Wisdom

My work is also informed by training in energy medicine and shamanic practices, including the Energy Medicine Training in Chile with Alberto Villoldo and Marcella Lobos. There, I worked with the medicine wheel, energetic patterns, and ritual forms of healing.

These approaches are not used in isolation or as esoteric practices in my work, but are carefully integrated within a psychological and trauma-sensitive framework.

My different areas of specialization

An Integrated Professional Foundation

All these methods, trainings, and sources of inspiration together form the professional foundation of the Heart & Brain Healing Process. They are not intended to exist alongside one another as separate approaches, but to deepen and support each other.

The underlying principle remains the same: trauma does not call for quick fixes, but for attention, safety, regulation, and a carefully structured process. From this foundation, not only can healing take place, but space can also emerge for post-traumatic growth, meaning-making, and a new relationship with yourself and with life.
